Season 2 Volume 1 – Putting Building Blocks in Place

After one full season with Austria Wien, it’s time to make some moves and put this team at the top of the Tipico Bundesliga.  Not at lot of moves need to be but the right moves can move us from second place to first place as well as hopefully make some more noise in Europe.  One of the first moves is tactical.  Gone is the 4-4-2 diamond that I’ve come to love on this version of FM.  In it’s place is a 4-2-3-1 with a defensive forward supporting an attacking band of three with two holding midfielders to provide support for the attack and cover for the defense.

Volume 3 – Season One in the Books

Year one has come and gone with Austria Wien.  It was a season full of ups and downs.  The team met some disappointment head on and hopefully this will spur them to improve their performances and realize their full potential.  Should they do this, they will win the league fairly easily and reach the knockout stages of the Europa League.  Lots of untapped potential going on here.

Volume 2 – Austria Wien – Rekindling a Fallen Domestic Giant

We have reached the mid-season break in Austria and it has been a successful start to our campaign.  Our defense has been the backbone of this team because we have not been scoring a whole lot.  When we do score, we score in bunches.  This lack of offense has held us back because we can drop points to just about anybody.

FM 17 – Austria Wien – Rekindling a Fallen Domestic Giant

 

Austria Wien, at one time, was the most successful club in Austrian football.  The club has won 24 Austrian Bundesliga titles, second only to cross-town rivals Rapid Wien.  The club has won 27 Austrian Cups which is almost double the total of 2nd place, Rapid Wien, who has 14 Austrian Cup.  The two clubs compete the 3rd most-played derby behind the Old Firm and Edinburgh Derby.  At the moment, Austria Wien trail Rapid Wien in the finances game since Franz Horr Stadium is half the size of Rapid’s Weststadion.  That said, both Vienna clubs have been jumped over by Red Bull Salzburg who have the financing of Red Bull behind them which allows the club to create a large gap between themselves and the other clubs in the Austrian Bundesliga.  21 of Austria Wien’s 24 titles came in the 20th century and 10 of those 21 titles came between 1969 and 1986 so the club has fallen from its perch as one of Austria’s top clubs.
